You know more English than you think!
There are many words in English and in Spanish that are similar or the same! These are called cognates (cognados).
Here are some examples: abdicate-abdicar, abnormal-abnormal, band-banda, bank- banco etc. In many of the cognates the only difference is the pronunciation because there are so many more vowel (vocales) sounds in English than in Spanish. Beware of false cognates such as embarazada and embarrassed, or asistir and assist.
There are also very basic similarities in grammar. The rules are, in general, easily explained and learned. If you speak well in your own language, you'll speak well in another.
It's important to know what an INFINITIVE is. In Spanish an infinitive ends with ER, AR, and IR. In English the infinitive is a simple verb preceded by TO. Example: caminar- TO walk.
In Spanish as well as English, you must always follow desires with an infinitive. For example;
Quisiera ir a mi casa, not quisiera voy, correct?
Same in English: I would like TO GO to my house, not I would like GO.
